Long toss and pull-downs
Everyone
MediumAbout 15 minPairs
Throwing on an arc out to the distance your arm wants, then walking back in throwing on a line.
Set up
Outdoors or a long hall. Warm up with arm care and catch play first.
You need: Glove, ball, space
Steps
- Throw on a relaxed arc, stepping back each throw
- Stop when the arc gets too high to stay easy
- Walk back in, throwing on a flatter line each time
- Finish with five firm throws at 20 m
Coaching points
- Let the arm go, do not muscle it
- Use your legs and a crow hop
- Pull-downs are firm, not maximum
Common mistake. Long tossing on a day after pitching, or skipping the warm-up.
Adjust it
EasierCap the distance at 35 m.
HarderAdd a second round of pull-downs from 35 m.
